Hardback binding very good; contents clean and tight, no inscriptions, unmarked. Original cardboard slipcase worn. 'The Indo-Japanese Botanical Expedition was sent to Sikkim and the Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts in spring of 1960, sponsored by the University of Tokyo and the Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeonbotany., Lucknow. It has long been known that the flora of this region is very rich and similar to that of Japan. So the main objective of our exhibition is to make more clear the botanical relationship between the region and Japan.' First edition of this lavishly illustrated work on the botanical wealth of Sikkim, containing illusts. of orchids, rhododendrons, oak trees, bamboo, evergreens, and ferns. The expedition had made the study because this area of the Himalayas and Japan shared many similar species of plants.
