McCarthy had been the banner candidate of the left wing of the Democratic Party during the hotly contested 1968 Presidential Primary (Johnson was not seeking re-election due to the turmoil in Vietnam). McCarthy's candidacy lost steam after Bobby Kennedy entered the race, and did not regain momentum after Kennedy's assassination. A meaningful association copy.
