A certain originality of language and motive growing directly from the [e]ntrenched old American hill peoples' thought and customs, with a constant singing lyric beauty, should give these poems permanent place in the growing literature of the Allegh[e]nies.".

Thomas Bird Mosher (1852-1923) founded the first significant private press in America. Working from Portland, Maine beginning in 1891, Mosher published small, carefully designed books that were hand-produced as part of the Arts and Crafts movement. Many of the Mosher books were printed in limited editions. We are not sure how this volume, containing seven poems, came to be issued five years after Mosher's death. Edna Worthley Underwood (1873 - 1961) was an American writer of poetry, short stories, novels, and essays. In addition she translated numerous foreign works into English. decorated paper-covered boards, paper cover label.
