Añadir al carritoHardcover. 8vo. Black cloth with silver spine lettering. ix, 426pp. Near fine. Tight and attractive later printing of this think tank production -- and a superb association copy, for front flyleaf bears a fine, bold presentation inscription in blue ballpoint "To the Governor -- / Merry Christmas / from the Corbetts / 1962." Nancy Corbett (1916-2005) and Alfred H. Corbett (1915-2000) were wealthy and influential Portlanders, he an Oregon legislator and politician. The "Governor" of the inscription is Adlai E. Stevenson II (1900-65). on whose 1952 and 1956 presidential campaigns the Corbetts both worked. Although Stevenson was U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. by the time of this inscription, he would always be "the Governor" to these devoted supporters. From the library of the governor's son, Adlai E. Stevenson III (1930-2021), U.S. Senator from Illinois (1970-81). An intriguing copy -- Governor Stevenson is mentioned several times in the text.
