Añadir al carrito32mo. 16pp, stitched in original printed peach title wrappers. Ink stamp of "BIBLE HOUSE, 735 Baronne St., N. O. LA" on front wrapper. Very Good plus. This unrecorded pocket-sized pamphlet solicits donations to and subscriptions for the Helping Hand Mission in New Orleans. Its text is by Rev. J.J. Hoffman, a Lutheran pastor who ran the mission on St. Charles Avenue. Reverend Hoffman describes his proselytizing mission to the destitute of New Orleans, without regard to nationality or creed, although he acknowledges that most beneficiaries are Roman Catholic. Hoffman reassures possible donors that the Mission is primarily for the benefit of the white population. "While it remains a fact that no public institution in New Orleans can be kept at the same time for white and black, and the Mission is an institution for white people, still in exceptional cases colored people get temporarily the benefits of the Mission, excepting seats at our table - and we find that there are but very few colored people who do not understand that a line must be drawn somewhere, and they are thankful for the exceptional aid extended to them." Hoffman describes efforts to help widows, orphans, the unemployed, the arduous assistance provided by him and his wife, and his own successful administration of "Faith-Cures."
