Claessens). Exemplaire en superbe état, quelques notes marginales au crayon graphite (correctiondes coquilles notamment) agrémentent le volume. Édition originale. Il s'agit du premier recueil de l'auteur, orné d'un frontispice et de six bois gravés deGeorge Minne. Publié chez l'éditeur de Paul Verlaine, Léon Vanier, l'ouvrage est imprimé à Gand par VanMelle, à très petit nombre. Seuls 155 exemplaires numérotés sur vergé de Hollande van Gelder vontparaître à cette date, celui-ci, le « n°116 ». Magnifique petit volume, tout en sensibilité. Nous citons volontiers quelques phrases glanées dansl'ouvrage L'Univers de George Minne & Maurice Maeterlinck : « La relation qui unit Minne à Maeterlinckdépasse l'anecdote biographique et va au-delà du travail d'illustration par lequel l'artiste témoigne parailleurs son immersion dans l'univers poétique de Maeterlinck. Er gilt als der bedeutendste belgische Bildhauer des 19. Jahrhunderts neben George Minne. In seinem von ihm selbst entworfenen Wohnhaus (1900) in Brüssel befindet sich das 1939 gegründete Musée Meunier, das seine Werke verwaltet. 1931 wurde in seinem Heimatort Etterbeek ein Denkmal Meuniers von Edmond de Valériola aufgestellt. Von 1982 bis 1998 war die 500 Francs-Banknote in Belgien Meunier gewidmet. Der Asteroid (10079) Meunier wurde nach ihm benannt.
