Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book aims to provide a comprehensive introduction to algebra, building upon the fundamentals of arithmetic and extending its applications. The author recognizes the need for a fresh approach to the subject, acknowledging that traditional textbooks often present challenging concept…s to beginners. To address this, the book prioritizes clarity and accessibility, postponing or omitting complex topics such as the highest common factors and the extraction of roots, which can be addressed later in the course as deemed necessary by the instructor. The book emphasizes the importance of understanding the fundamental laws of numbers, carefully explaining and illustrating them. While rigorous proofs are included in an appendix, the focus on practical application allows students to become comfortable with algebraic processes before delving into more formal mathematical arguments. The author employs a variety of pedagogical strategies to deepen understanding and engage students. The concept of a general number is introduced through numerous illustrations, demonstrating its crucial role in algebraic problem-solving. Furthermore, the book encourages students to check their work through consistent practice in substituting particular values for general numbers, fostering a deeper comprehension of the symbolism and a sense of self-reliance. The book's significance lies in its ability to make algebra accessible and engaging for students, equipping them with a solid foundation for further study in mathematics and science. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book provides an in-depth look at the concept of "general number" or "literal number", a topic area that extends beyond the traditional Hindu-Arabic numerals. Specifically, it focuses on the use of algebraic equations as a scientific instrument for problem-solving. Algebra emerged… as an extension of arithmetic, providing more effective methods for addressing various types of problems encountered in practical fields such as manufacturing, trade, science, and everyday life. By introducing the concept of general number, the author lays the groundwork for understanding algebraic equations as a powerful tool for modeling and solving real-world problems. The book emphasizes the practical applications of algebraic principles, guiding readers through a wide range of problem types, from simple formula evaluations to more complex scenarios involving systems of linear equations. It also delves into the history of algebra, tracing its evolution from ancient civilizations to the present day. Through numerous worked examples and exercises, the author demonstrates the versatility of algebraic equations in representing and solving problems across various disciplines. This book is an invaluable resource for students and practitioners seeking a deeper understanding of algebra and its applications in the real world. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Añadir al carritoFIRST EDITION, illustrations to the ads at rear, a little corner-creasing to some leaves, pp. 63, [16, ads], small 4to, original yellow wrappers, with an illustration printed in green and pink to the front (signed 'E.J.'), the illustrator's ownership inscription is above: 'Personal copy. Enid Jones. Nov. 1933', slightly nicked a…t joint ends, fore-margin of rear cover a little creased, small spot at foot of front, very minor handling otherwise, the inside front-cover with the bookplate of Martin & Pamela Finch, very good. The copy of Enid Bagnold, Lady Jones, who provides the illustration to the front cover. Bagnold had studied art under Walter Sickert before becoming an author, but the charm of her work here lies in part in its modesty: a note within the image confesses that 'the hoods [on the prams] are up because they are easier to draw'. It was Bagnold - listed here, along with Vera Brittain, on the Executive Committee and the Literature Sub-Committee - who encapsulated the organisation as 'a West End Club to teach rich mothers East End Wisdom'. It was, more officially, an 'Infant Welfare Centre for Subscribers', giving advice to mothers on diet, nutrition and other aspects of care with a progressive outlook. Leading the advertisements at the rear is a photograph of a caged infant - being a 'Hammersmith member' using the open-air cage, attached to the window of a high-storey, recommended as a source of exposure to 'fresh air', particularly for those families without ready access to a garden.
