" Progress has been made.Through the untiring efforts of the Mid-West Map Company these highways have been charted and mapped until maps of all states are now available for every one. Maps, during the building of our country would have saved many lives and thousands of dollars; and today, Mid-West Map Company's maps are an indispensable part of the travelers equipment. With them you may tour the entire United States with the same ease you find in going from your home to your office." [back cover] The Mid-West Map Company of Aurora, Missouri began issuing maps in the late 1920s to promote the products of oil companies who sponsored their publication. This would soon develop into broader efforts to create a 'Nation-Wide Map Service' that provided free informational road maps to motor tourists across the contiguous United States. This example shows the highway network across Pennsylvania during the early 1930s. A variety of road surfaces and categories are noted according to the legend in the lower center, with the road signs for both State and U.S. Interstate Highways shown in the negative space of the map. Other blank areas are occupied by advertisements for hotels, garages, Hershey Park, the Chester Bridgeport Ferry, and Historic Indian Cave. Tourist camps and towns in which Nation-Wide Map Service guides can be found are also identified throughout the image with boxes and stars, respectively. The verso provides a detailed index of the towns and the businesses in which the guides can be acquired." Añadir al carrito20 3/4 x 16 inches. Condición: Very good condition. The Mid-West Map Company issued this two color map. It is completely printed in blue ink on white paper. Done in 1929, the map has no advertisements which was unusual for the company. The company set the pace for the distribution of free road maps. They were able to do this because of advertisements issued with each map. This particular map has 146 paid advertisers on the back of the map listing. Larger vignette style advertising on the recto is normal for this companies maps but noe are found on this map. Regardless they make Minnesota quite attractive for tourism with a well gravel set of roads as indicated by the legend. Any rural improved roads prior to 1930 were positive for the traveler.

Añadir al carrito21 x 16 inches. This map is blue ink printed on off-white paper It is a very good example of mapping of the period. By 1930, the depression was taking its initial hold on the economy. The stock market had shaken out the investing weaklings and Idaho was not effected to the extent that the rest of the country was depressing. The map captures the main roads and highlights the lack of pavement in the state. This is a very nice presentation with the guide on the verso. Very good condition but for very minor water stain in lower right quadrant.

Añadir al carrito21 x 16 inches. This is a well executed map by the Mid-West Map company of Aurora MO which was in operation from 1926 to 1935. There is no date, as usual, but the inclusion of federal highway shields yields a date of post 1926. The code on the front of the map would indicate a publication date of 1934 according to the Western Association of Map Libraries dating guide. The composition of the map is well thought out leaving many spaces for the inclusion of advertising. It was this advertising that allowed for free distribution of the map. Sponsors included ;Twelfth St. Garage, The Motormart Garage, The Chancellor Hotel and Battlefield Crystal Caverns. There is a small inset map of western WV. This is printed in blue ink on white off-white paper giving a very attractive appearance. Very good with two small marginal tear mended with archival mending tape.

Añadir al carrito21 x 10 1/2 inches. This map is a different enterprise late in the life of the Mid-West Map Company. Sears was the primary advertiser that allowed this map to be produced. Even though the map was printed with a Stockton CA address, the map was of Florida. the graphics are excellent and qiuite pictorial. The map deviated from the normal mono-blue. ink of the map company. By integrating bright yellow into their scheme, they brought a whole new visual dimension to their map. On the cover is a progression of autos from 1886 to 1936. The balance of the Sears Advertising is intense and pleasing to the eye. The commemorative medallion on is a striking display of Sears longevity as a business. Very good condition with separation and several fold junctions from normal use.

Añadir al carritoCondición: Very Good. This highway map of California by the Mid-West Map Company was part of a series of maps designed to provide a traveler with all the information they could need while on the road. In addition to route and surface designations, mile markers, airports, campsites, and rail lines, the map also provides detailed information on locations where motorists could stop for additional information, necessary services, or to get a meal. There are three advertisements for such locations on the image of the map, and over 100 more are detailed on the verso. Insets for transportation services in the Bay Area are also present, including toll roads and auto ferries. A large advertisement in the upper right hand corner underlies why such ferries were necessary - both the Bay and Golden Gate bridges were currently under construction at the time of publication and auto mobility in the Bay Area was severely limited. The ferry operators capitalized on the fabrication process and created special routes so visitors could see the iconic bridges as they were being built. Sheet Width (in) 17 Sheet Height (in) 22 Condition Description The map is in good condition, with a few small holes along folds present as originally issued. Toning throughout.
