From the blurb - "This Volume will appeal to the lover of postal history, the chronicle covering two centuries from the time when the first postmaster was appointed in 1762. A great deal of the detail has not appeared in print before. Those who… love the classic postage stamps, engraved and printed firstly by Perkins, Bacon & Co., and subsequently by De La Rue and Co., have here a series that are more colourful than those of any other country. From 1861 their beauty has appealed to collectors. Many of the cancellations and handstamps used are chronicled for the first time and they include the abbreviated village datestamps which have always attracted collectors. There is a chronicle of all the revenue stamps which is more complete than any previously published, the "Specimen" and "Cancelled" over- prints are fully listed, the many forgeries described and the postal stationery recorded. In all there are 441 illustrations, 124 of which are in colour, and two maps. Among the surprising facts chronicled are the defalcations of the Postmaster of St. Vincent which accounted for some curious rates when British stamps were in use, the peculiar cutting of the sheets of watermarked paper, the forgery of the 1880 provisionals which was made in the Kingstown P.O., the identification of the missing De La Rue printing of the 5/- rose, and the use of postage stamps on telegrams addressed overseas. The first author, Arthur D. Pierce, was an ardent collector and a professional writer. His work was but half finished at the time of his death so this volume has been completed by his two friends - J. L. Messenger whose collection of the stamps of St. Vincent is probably the best in the world, and Robson Lowe, the publisher." Very Good in slightly darkened and duststained dustwrapper.
