Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book presents the ecclesiastical history of Gerona, Spain, from ancient times, through its development during the Visigothic and medieval eras. It examines the city's Roman, Visigothic, and Muslim monuments, as well as its Christian origins, episcopal history, and the various councils and synods that have taken place there, including previously unpublished acts of the Council of Besalu, in addition to historical accounts of the region's monasteries, and the lives and works of the city's notable bishops. The author argues against the common idea that the churches of Catalonia were not subject to the metropolitanate of Narbonne at a certain time, due to what the author asserts was a misreading of the historical record. The work draws on a wealth of historical and archaeological sources to provide a comprehensive understanding of the ecclesiastical history of Gerona, shedding light on the development of Christianity, and on the political and social dynamics, as well as the cultural and artistic achievements that shaped the city and its surroundings throughout the medieval era.
