A credible history of a Hebredian clan must explain the relationships between the island clans, their alliances and something of their culture. A good history must also discuss the pressure on the clans that was exerted by the kings of Scotland as they sought to incorporate the Hebrides into the Kingdom of Scotland. The Small Regiment, volume 1, Origins of the Clan MacKinnon, is suitable for everyone with an interest in the Clan MacKinnon or Hebridean history. This is not simply another history of Scotland with a Lowland or English bias. Every effort was made to maintain a MacKinnon focus and an Hebridean prospective. There is enough information regarding sources that interested readers may easily continue this fascinating research.
