Añadir al carritoSubstantial surviving archive of mid-century modern design material issued by Habitat Incorporated, the New York furnishings and design company founded by architect and industrial designer Paul Mayén (1918-2000). Founded by Mayén Ca. 1953, Habitat (and later, Intrex) became associated with the American modernist movement through its minimalist furnishings, lighting, and interior accessories regionally marketed to architects, decorators, and contractors. This particular binder is marked "Oregon 9-7075" on the first price sheet. Mayén studied at the Art Students League, Cooper Union, and Columbia University, before teaching classes in advertising design. Mayén's lifelong partner, Edgar Kaufmann Jr. inherited the Frank Lloyd Wright Fallingwater house, which was commissioned by his father. Mayén oversaw the building of the pavilion there in 1979-81, designing the new gift shop and cafe. Several of Mayén's works are now held in the permanent collection of the Industrial Design department at MoMA. The binder contains: Contractor-Dealer Cost and List Prices sheets for Table and Floor Lamps, dated August 1, 1964 Floor Lamps Catalog 7364, 1962, [4]pp. Table Lamps Catalog, 7564, August 1964, 8pp Sand Urns Catalog 50013, Sept 1 1966, 16pp Water Urns Catalog 51412, Sept 1 1966, 4pp Waste Receptacles Catalog 53008, Sept 1 1966, 16pp Umbrella Stands and Racks Catalog 54018, Sept 1 1966, 8pp Intrex Table Catalog and Price List series 91200, Sept 20 1966, [10]pp TV Carts/Record Storage Cabinets sheet, undated, [2]pp Dealer Net Costs Sheet for several of the above catalogs, September 1 1966, [2]pp In all, a rare and visually appealing archive of work from one of the important and lesser-known figures in mid century modern design. We find scant mention in OCLC for any material from Habitat Inc., save a collection of Lamps catalogs at Ball State University. . Black three ring binder containing 11x8.5" price lists, catalogues, and product sheets from Habitat Inc. and Intrex Inc., organized with tabbed dividers. Black and white photographs, diagrams throughout, the Intrex catalogue with a few color samples. Binder with some residue and scuffing to outside, contents clean.
