Rollo May's Love and Will (1969) is a landmark work of existential psychology, examining the tension and interdependence between two central human forces: love and will. Written during a period of rapid cultural and social transformation, th…e book addresses modern alienation, the mechanization of intimacy, and the psychological consequences of a society increasingly driven by technique rather than meaning. May draws on philosophy, psychoanalysis, and cultural observation to argue that love without will becomes sentimentality, while will without love devolves into manipulation - making their integration essential to authentic human experience. The work is structured in thematic sections exploring eros, sexuality, creativity, and the nature of human freedom, with references ranging from Freud and Kierkegaard to Plato and Schopenhauer. Its accessible yet intellectually rigorous style helped establish it as one of the defining psychological texts of the late 20th century. The book remains widely read for its insights into relationships, identity, and the psychological challenges of modern life. This copy is a later early printing, identified as the 6th printing (121,000 copies), with number line '6 7 8 9 0' on the copyright page. Published by W. W.
