Vintage publicity photograph from the 1948 film, showing teenage actress Carol Yorke made up to look gaunt and plain on the left, and made up to look glamorous on the right. Printed mimeo snipe affixed to the verso. Based on the 1922 novella by Stefan Zweig, about a pianist in 1900s Vienna who receives an important letter from a… woman from his past, and must figure out how to escape a duel he is due to fight the next morning. The first film produced by Rampart Productions, an independent company formed by Joan Fontaine and her husband William Dozier. 10 x 8 inches. Two vintage publicity photographs from the 1947 film, both showing actor Nigel Bruce. Printed mimeo snipe affixed to the verso of one. Loosely based on the 1926 novel "His Majesty, the King," by Cosmo Hamilton. King Charles II lives in exile in the Netherlands after being deposed by Oliver Cromwell and his supporters. There, Cha…rles falls in love with a farm girl while hiding from Cromwell's assassins. From the archive of noted Hollywood still photographer Ray Jones. Born in Wisconsin on January 1, 1901, Jones worked for Paramount Pictures in the early 1930s, and went on to be the head of the still photography department at Universal Pictures in 1935, where he worked well into the 1950s. 10 x 8 inches. With the stamp of Tele-Magazine on the verso, along with manuscript pencil annotations regarding layout. Based on the novel "La vie extraordinaire de Lola Montes" by Cecil Saint-Laurent. A once-renowned Europ…ean courtesan and former dancer is reduced to working in a New Orleans circus as the main attraction. A film which did poorly in theaters upon release, but is now acclaimed for its crucial influence on the French New Wave cinema movement. Director Max Ophuls' final film before his death two years later, in 1957. Set in New Orleans, shot on location in Austria, Germany, and France. 9 x 7 inches.
