Illustrations: T.p. in historiated border of angels, religious scenes, etc., head- and tail-pieces, decorated initials. Some Hebrew text. Martini, Jakob, (1570-1649) important representative of Lutheran school philosophy. Martini began in 1590 to study arts and theology at Helmstedt and continued his studies after 1593 in Wittenberg, the principal place of the training of Lutheran orthodoxy. After 1597, he worked as a teacher and as a minister in the north (East Frisia). In 1602 he became a professor of the logic and Metaphysics at Wittenberg. As a pupil C. Martinis, whose humanistic ideals he maintained, he became one of the most successful advocates of the school of rhetorical-dialectically oriented logic. Martini, just as energetically, promoted the re-establishment of Metaphysics as the most essential discipline in philosophy This new School-metaphysics was aristotelian in its tenor, but it didn?t have the form of the older Aristotelian critiicism, but instead a systematic characteristic with an ontological end. It served, with the systematic elaboration of logic, theological interests. This excluded the critical reception, for instance, of the Spanish scholastics and Ramistic humanism. After 1613, Martini, was additionally professor of Ethics at Wittenberg and after 1623, professor of theology which post he held until his death. [See: Biographisch- Bibliographisches Kirchenlexikon V, 944.]These disputations were given in a series commencing on the 22nd of July, 1615 and ending on the 13th of January 1616. The pamphlets must have been issued separately and finally gathered together and reissued with a new title-page and prefatory letter. All works are rare. Citations: VD17 23:329506G. Hardcover. Condición: Fine. 1st Edition, Special Edition. This specific book boasts a complete historical loop: printed in Erfurt in 1714, it was immediately acquired by Lambach Abbey (Upper Austria) under the active reign of the celebrated Prince-Abbot Maximilian Pagl (reigned 1705-1725). It features his premier, genuine gold-leaf stamped M.A.L. armorial supralibros on the front cover and matching internal institutional library stamps. A highly collectible piece of early 18th-century cartographic education and monastic book history. Upon its publication in 1714, this textbook was incorporated into the elite library system of the Benedictine Stift Lambach (Lambach Abbey) in Upper Austria. The book was custom-bound in the abbey's workshop using an exceptionally durable contemporary full rigid alum-tawed pigskin (or premium vellum). The center of the front board features a stunning, crisp gilt supralibros (bookbinding armorial stamp) belonging to Prince-Abbot Maximilian Pagl. The connection between the exterior and interior provenance is absolute and flawlessly preserved: The Exterior Gilt Supralibros: The center of the front board features a stunning, crisp armorial stamp belonging to Prince-Abbot Maximilian Pagl (reigned 1705-1725). The abbreviation **M. A. L.** stands for Maximilianus Abbas Lambacensis. The heraldry features a quartered shield showcasing the stylized waterfowl/lapwings of the Pagl family crest alongside the institutional arms of Lambach Abbey, crowned by a pontifical mitre and crozier staff. The Internal Title Page Stamp: Confirming its institutional placement, the title page features the authentic, historic oval ink ownership stamp reading: "AD BIBLIOTHEC. MONAST: LAMBACENS." (To the Library of the Monastery of Lambach). Place of Printing: Erfurt, Germany. Binding: Contemporary full rigid white alum-tawed pigskin/vellum over pasteboard cores. Spine Details: Hand-inked period spine label reading: JACOB MARTIN GEOGRAPHISCH: EN UBUNG. Shelfmarks: Historical hand-written library shelf numbers on the binding (463., 20., and 507.). Typography: Beautiful dual-color (Red and Black) ink title page with mixed Gothic fraktur and Roman fonts. Binding: Solid, tight, and completely intact. The vellum/pigskin shows natural, beautiful age-patina and remains exceptionally clean for a 300+ year-old institutional book. Supralibros: Excellent preservation; the gold leaf tooling is bright, sharp, and deeply impressed.Interior: The pages show minimal age related toning/browning typical of 18th-century German paper stock. The text blocks are clean, completely legible, and free from any text losses. Stamps/Markings: All provenance markings (external gold stamp, internal ink stamp, and spine numbers) are perfectly legible and clear. Please view the photographs for more information. Jahrhundert zahlreiche Auflagen. Diese enthält weiter ein Vorwort des deutschen Philosophen Jakob Martini, Anmerkungen des damals bekanntesten Mathematikers und Astronomen Portugals Petrus Nonius (Pedro Nunes) und ein Kompendium zur "Sphäre" des ein italienischen Humanisten Pierius Valerianus (Pierio Valeriano Bolzanio). // Private, later leather cover. The cover is rubbed at the top of the spine, and a small corner piece of three leaves in the preface is torn off at the top, without affecting the text. Otherwise, this is a clean book in good condition. Book from a non smoking environment. Language: Latin. This is a very rare copy, especially in such good condition, of the most famous work by the English mathematician and astronomer Sacrobosco, who taught at the University of Paris. In his Tractatus de Sphaera, a textbook on spherical astronomy, written around 1230, he discusses the Earth's place in the universe, its spherical shape, geodesy, climate zones, the origin of eclipses, and more. It was used at universities throughout Europe as a mandatory handbook for astronomy instruction well into the 17th century. The edition, with the commentary of the humanist Elie Vinet, went through numerous editions in the 16th and 17th centuries. This also contains a foreword by the German philosopher Jakob Martini, notes by the then most famous mathematician and astronomer in Portugal, Petrus Nonius (Pedro Nunes), and a compendium on the "sphere" by the Italian humanist Pierius Valerianus (Pierio Valeriano Bolzanio). la.…
