hardcover. Condición: Very Good. The Christmas Stocking, Dorothy M. Prescott and Martha Scott Moncrieff (Editors) â" First Edition Publication: London, Blandford Press, [1949] Formatting: 8vo, pp. 160. Condition Report: Very Good. The book is securely bound in its original vibrant orange cloth, remaining tight and square with sharp corners and unrubbed extremities. Internally, the pages are crisp, bright, and highly legible, displaying only minor, uniform age-toning to the text block margins and endpapers, while remaining completely free of any modern inscriptions, notable foxing, or internal damage. The accompanying original pictorial dust jacket remains visually vibrant and largely complete but exhibits some moderate edge-wear, minor chipping to the head and tail of the spine panel, and a small closed tear to the upper edge of the rear panel. Overall, a highly presentable and well-preserved copy of a fragile mid-century publication. Catalogue Note: An attractive and exceptionally scarce surviving copy of this mid-century children's anthology, particularly notable for retaining its original, unclipped pictorial dust jacket. While the publication is officially undated, bibliographic records and internal research place this first edition circa 1949. The volume brings together an impressive array of prominent mid-twentieth-century authors, boasting festive contributions from literary luminaries such as Enid Blyton, Dorothy L. Sayers, Richmal Crompton, and Alison Uttley. Adding to the book's charm is the enchanting frontispiece and primary dust jacket artwork, beautifully executed by the celebrated illustrator Treyer Evans. Finding this title complete with its delicate dust jacket is increasingly unusual on the open market. Post-war children's annuals of this nature were frequently read to destruction or discarded, making this copy an evocative and highly collectable example of British mid-century publishing. A captivating treasure trove of festive nostalgia, The Christmas Stocking is a delightful anthology designed to enchant children of all ages. Masterfully compiled by Dorothy M. Prescott and Martha Scott Moncrieff, this magical volume is "filled" with seasonal stories, poems, and adventures penned by some of the most beloved voices in British literature, including Enid Blyton, Dorothy Sayers, and Richmal Crompton. Brought to life with charming illustrations by Treyer Evans and others, it perfectly captures the innocence, wonder, and warmth of a traditional mid-century Christmas. Treyer Evans (ilustrador). …
