This richly illustrated volume provides fresh perspectives on the work of one of Finland's and the Nordic region's most significant sculptors from the 1990s to the 2010s. The cult-renowned artist Markus Copper (1968-2019) created sculptures that incorporate sound and movement, often addressing subjects linked to recent historical tragedies, such as the sinking of the passenger ship Estonia. He is particularly known for large, site-dominating works that employ sound, mechanical motion, or light. Many of his pieces explore human behavior, morality, and psychological landscapes. PhD and museum director Leevi Haapala examines the dynamics of opposing forces in Copper's works, focusing especially on the layered meanings of Khyber Pass (2014). Art historian Saara Karhunen analyzes the performative aspects of Copper's sculptures and the viewer's role, drawing on his early-1990s performance art. Copper spent 15 years working in Sweden and Denmark, a period and artistic mindset explored in an article by Swedish art historian and critic Carolina Söderholm. Copper's own voice is presented in a re-published 2006 interview by FM Päivi Nikkilä, reflecting on his time in Berlin. Richly illustrated, the book showcases not only Copper's sculptures but also captivating drawings, including his final extensive series "Huviretki tienpientareelle". The published documentary material provides insight into his working process, sculptural production, and activities as a performance artist. Related to the exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, Helsinki, Finland, 11 November 2022 - 26 February 2023. Text in Finnish and English. 145 pp.
