He earned the reputation of being the greatest coal miner in Carbon County, as he was able to bring out more coal in one day, than any other coal miner. T…he story goes on to tell you his life story working the coal mines for over 30 years, going back to Greece to marry a Greek woman, returning to America and raising five sons through some of the harshest times America or the world experienced, the Great Depression of the 1930s. During the Depression, he moved his family from one coal mining shanty town to another. He moved his family to Pennsylvania where he offered enployment that did not work out. After working the coal mines of Pennsylvania for a few years he returned to Utah, as employment opportunities were coming back. An eye sugary, removing one eye due to Glaucoma, caused George to retire from his 30 year coal mining career. He moved his famiy to California where went into the restaurant business for another 28 years. He passed away on December 1 1985, 37 days minus from being 100 years old.
