Marion Benedict Cothren (18801949) was an American suffrage and peace activist, lawyer, and children's author. Dudley, the grey parrot, and Gilderoy, the red-haired cat, were great friends. Dudley was a kindly creature; Gilderoy lived by his wits and by doing battle with rivals. One day they set off on a journey which involved trains, taxis, and roof-tops. Dudley rode part of the way in an old lady's hat, and for a time they joined her household, but their owners finally caught up with the runaways.
