Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. 1st Edition. Enrique Fernandez wrote the introduction to this volume with black paper boards with green lettering on the spine and front cover. There are 79 pages to this publication, the first twelve are text and most of the rest have the title of an image on the left hand side of the book and a black-and-white image on the right hand side. There is also a selected list of the photographer's exhibitions and where his work has been collected. Michael Koetzel was the editor for this volume. There is a hint of yellowing to the margins of the leafs, and wear to the bottom edges of the boards-the black ink has worn off in some places showing white. There is also a semi-circular indentation to the dust wrapper which has carried through to the front board. The wrapper has other superficial wear, on the front and back panerl and along the edges. The dust wrapper is now protected by a clear removable cover.…

Algaze (1947-2022) was a Cuban-American photographer who photographed musicians and celebrities, in rural and urban areas, throughout Latin America. "A native of Cuba and longtime resident of Miami, Mario Algaze "went to Latin America to look for his roots". These perfectly composed black and white photographs are witness to the vastness and diversity of the Latin American world that he perceived. They portray a peacefulness, even if it is a temporary one, that transcends the various regions' political lives and requires instead contemplation, attention to detail and nuance". One of the most beautiful art photography books of our time. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now scarce. An austerely elegant production by Mario Algaze and Glitterati: Oversize-volume format. Pale gray cloth boards with titles embossed on spine, as issued. Photographs by Mario Algaze. Essay by Vince Aletti, the brilliant Resident Photography Critic of The New Yorker Magazine. Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper to the highest standards. The reproduction quality must be seen to be believed in its clarity, tonal range, and warmth. In pictorial DJ with titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Presents Mario Algaze's "A Respect For Light: the Latin-American Photographs: 1974-2008". Images to take your breath away. "Showcases the unique genius of photographer Mario Algaze, whose deep appreciation and understanding of the nuances of light - sunlight pouring in through church windows, illuminating a pair of teacups on a cafe table, casting late-afternoon shadows on a cobblestoned street - is both legendary and rare. An exquisite and comprehensive collection of work by the Cuban-American photographer who, after being exiled from his homeland at the age of thirteen, traveled extensively in Central and South America, capturing the spirit of Latin America through his lens and seeking a connection with his cultural roots. Represents the full breadth of the artist's work, culled from over three decades of travel in sixteen different countries. Algaze has steadily built a sum-view of Spanish-speaking countries that no other photographer has done before or since" (Publisher's blurb). "There is a sense of something else, of something more: A world evolving, a lover scorned, a crime of passion about to be committed, in Mario Algaze's black-and-white photographs. Considered one of the masters of the art, he manages to capture evocative scenes that live beyond the images frozen by his camera" (Miami Herald). An absolute "must-have" title for Mario Algaze collectors. This copy is very boldly and beautifully signed in pencil on the front free endpaper by Mario Algaze. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. This title is a contemporary photography classic. As far as we know, this is the only such signed copy of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Algaze did NOT sign most copies of the book. A rare signed copy thus. Lavishly illustrated with black-and-white plates. One of the finest Latin-American photographers of our time. A fine collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER MARIO ALGAZE TITLES IN OUR CATALOG) ISBN 0991341961. Signed by Author.…
