Cloth. Condición: Very Good ++. First Edition. 1st Edition 1946. A 2pp. letter hand-written by Walter de la Mare Jack Haines. A 28 line letter written to poet and solictior Jack Haines. The letter is candid and affectionate and relates to 'the labour of love' involved in writing the introduction to Vivian Locke Ellis's 'Collected Lyrical Poems'. He says that the Ellis poem 'Go, nor Aquaint the rose' continues to 'bloom' in him and goes on to talk about the first time he met Locke Ellis. He also mentions other poets and mutual friends- Jack Squire, Bernard Hockley - and laments the dying of so many friends. Comes with a copy of the 'Collected Lyrical Poems' by Vivian Locke Ellis, published by Faber in 1946. There is also a hand-written postcard card by Locke Ellis giving directions to Jack Haines telling him of the trains- and times of the trains- that he needs to catch to visit him. Book is very good++ and very bright. The wrapper is near very good with edges rubbed and nicked. Small loss to wrapper spine. A few odd closed tears to edges. More images can be taken upon request. Published by W.Collins Sons and Co Ltd in 1925 (no date given, but catalogue of books at rear has new offerings from the year), here is the reprinted hardback edition of Walter De La Mare's HENRY BROCKEN: His Travels and Adventures in the Rich, Strange, Scarce-Imagined Regions of Romance illustrated by Marian Ellis. blue cloth binding, black lettering, 237 pages, supreme illustrations the book is in good condition with a very marginal spine slant, some light browning/ creasing to the end papers and some spotting to the extreme outside edges of the hand-cut pages. There is also an ink dedication and the name of a previous owner (again written in ink) to the front free end paper. The cult art-deco two-tone blue decorative dust jacket is in fair to good condition with a some moderate browning, a lengthy tear (approximately 50mm in length to the rear inside fold and some general chipping and and rubbing to the edges culminating in a very small area of loss at either end of the spine. A firecracker of a book.

'The Open Window' was a monthly illustrated magazine published in West & Central London, running for six months from October 1910, and then five months from April 1911. The contents with the decorative bookplate of John Gold to the front pastedown and with pertinent pencil inscriptions to the front endpaper are otherwise clean and bright throughout. Inscribed by the publisher James Guthrie in pencil at the head of the front free endpaper "To John Gold / from James" underneath which Gold has inscribed "To Roger / fr John / Aug 1949".
