Belo frontispício enquadrado por um moldura, em cujas partes superiores e inferiores, ornamentos de frutos e motivos arquitectónicos onde estão inscritas as palavras «IESVS.» e «A custa de Ioam de Espanha & Miguel de Arena Liureiros»; e cujos lados são constituidos por 6 pequenas gravuras entremeadas de tarjas, que representam santos franciscanos. Ao centro tem uma gravura que representa São Francisco. Impressão em caracteres redondos, com alguns itálicos, com o texto corrido nas licenças e nas poesias laudatórias e disposto em duas colunas no restante da obra. Ornamentado com iniciais decorativas no prólogo e na dedicatória do autor, uma delas especialmente cuidada, com uma pequena xilogravura retratando uma cena missionária; vinheta com dois anjos à cabeça da poesia de Jorge Coelho; florão de remate com motivos arquitectónicos no fim do índice de conteúdos. Exemplar foi objeto de um sólido trabalho de restauro, com a folha de rosto espelhada e reconstituída, com perda de grande parte do suporte; as folhas preliminares com restauros marginais e pequenos picos de traça, sem afetar o texto; últimas dez folhas marginadas nos cantos exteriores, afetando ocasionalmente a paginação e algumas letras; última folha montada. Parte dos versos laudatórios no verso da folha de rosto foram manuscritos para compensar a perda de texto. Selo branco na folha de rosto de «Francisco de Paula Santa Clara, Elvas» e rubrica datada de 1972. Tem ainda algumas assinaturas rasuradas e desenhos a tinta, junto à gravura central. O fólio 15 numerado 14 e o 134, 135. Terceira edição muito rara, à semelhança de todas as edições iniciais em português e espanhol da obra, particularmente desta primeira parte. José dos Santos, autor do catálogo dos condes de Azevedo e Samodães, refere-se à raridade desta edição. Apenas um exemplar completo na Biblioteca Nacional e outro na Universidade de Coimbra. As primeiras edições saíram em 1557 e 1566. As «Crónicas da Ordem dos Frades Menores» tiveram um impacto significativo na Europa, com mais de 100 edições publicadas entre os séculos XVI e XIX. A obra foi traduzida para várias línguas, incluindo italiano, francês, espanhol e parcialmente para inglês, o que demonstra a sua ampla popularidade e influência.
