The thesis of the work is that unfortunately, the covenant relationship that defines a true medical professional is becoming extinct. As health care shifts its emphasis from the needs of the patient to an obsession with cost control and profit, the traditional medical ethic has been replaced. Instead of doctors having covenant relationships with their patients, they now have contractual relationships-that is, doctors now do for their patients the minimum they can get away with in order to fulfill the contract. Dr. Miller's critique of the managed-care industry is both frightening and relevant. 110 pages, including a glossary.
