Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. Stated 2nd Edition. Flat-signed by the author, Harendranath Maitra, on the blank side of the half-title page (See photo). You can see the blue covers in the photos. They are mostly quite clean, there are a few small light spots on the spine. The black lettering on both the front and on the spine is bright. There is a little rubbing at the spine ends. The cover edges and corners are in excellent shape. The binding of the book is solid from cover to cover. I didn't see any binding issues. The covers are nicely tight. The pages are in very good condition. There is some light spotting on the blank end papers. I saw only a small number of light spots within the text, nothing conspicuous. There is one small loss at the bottom corner of the first page of Chapter I. It is not near to the print. There is one crease at the top corner of page 41-42. It has left a light shadow of itself at the top corner of the preceding and following page. I didn't see any other creasing. There are no markings in the book. There are no attachments of any kind. And the author's signature is the only writing to be found anywhere. From the Introduction: '`Mr. Maitra has one mark of the candid enthusiast: he is not afraid of being what is called paradoxical; that is, he is ready and eager to defend what would be called the least defensible parts of his case. He has his own explanations, clear and readable ones, of such things as the caste system and the status of women in the East.'. Signed by Author(s).

Añadir al carrito`The dharma of one man cannot be the dharma of another. What is good for me is not necessarily good for you. Swadharma, or one's own dharma, does not mean, however, that one cannot change his particular belief, such as changing from Christianity to Mohammedanism. Religion in that sense does not exist to a Hindu. It is not his belief, but it is his character, his regulative principle, his Ideal. That is his dharma.' (p. 31) -- From Chesterton's introduction: `Mr. Maitra has one mark of the candid enthusiast: he is not afraid of being what is called paradoxical; that is, he is ready and eager to defend what would be called the least defensible parts of his case. He has his own explanations, clear and readable ones, of such things as the caste system and the status of women in the East; which are at least refreshing in their divergence from the hackneyed views of the West.' (p. xiv) Good orig. green cloth. Backstrip spotted. Pencil marking.
