Añadir al carritoBritish and Irish shallow seas contain an astonishing 7% of the world's seaweed species, around 700 different seaweeds, and yet most divers, snorkellers and rockpoolers can put names to only a handful of them. This guide aims to de-mystify seaweed identification for the nonspecialist. The seaweeds selected for this guide are those with features large enough to be seen by eye or with the aid of a good hand lens. Over 200 species are described in detail, with additional information on habitat, distribution and confusion species. Species are divided into three main sections, red, brown and green seaweeds, each with its own introduction. With over 500 colour photographs and illustrations this guide is an invaluable aid to any person wishing to identifying seaweeds. Seaweeds of Britain and Ireland has been produced as a part of the Seasearch project, which offers training in the identification of marine life and habitats and encourages recording by volunteers. 224 pp., num. color figs, br. gr. 8 [148 x 210 mm].

Añadir al carritoThe two letters each 1p., 4to. Both on aged paper, with wear to left hand margin causing loss to text. In the first letter Lent gives details of 8 of his 17 purchases on that day, adding that 'The Lots sold quite well, a good many co are here, also Bowes, Blackwell, Mc Leis Taylor (Scheurer). Edwards, Pickering & E. Mathews, have marks.' In the second letter he gives details of 5 of his 10 purchases, one of them for 'Mr Butterwick'. He gives details of three commissions which Butterwick left with him, only one of which was successful. Catalogue: 31 + [1]pp., 4to. In brown printed wraps. Aged and worn. Annotated in pencil, with some of the 831 lots priced and named. A sturdy country-house library (the top seller, at £130 to Drayton, was a first edition of Chesterfield's letters). Comparison of the catalogue with Lent's letters gives no indication that the sale was ringed. The only copy of the catalogue on either COPAC or OCLC WorldCat at the British Library.
