Published in Holland by Galerie Penning in 1998 - a folio-size portfolio in linen-covered boards, 16" by 12", containing two matted photographs, large images measuring 11" by 9", signed, numbered, and stamped by Macku at bottom. Compelling images, printed in a special technique Macku employs called "gellage," resembling a photogravure. Vanguard work by this major Czech photographer - visceral, psychological images unlike anyone else. The photos are accompanied by an essay by Czech photographic critic Vladimir Birgus, translated into English and printed on loose leaves, along with biographical details, a note on the gellage technique, and a list of exhibitions and publications. All in fine condition. Macku photographs are generally priced at $1,500 to $2,500 apiece, so this portfolio of two signed photos is a great bargain. Rare - OCLC has NO entry for this.
