A fine set of the Diary of Samuel Pepys, with facsimiles, maps, and illustrations The famous diary of Samuel Pepys, complete in eleven volumes. Aside from volume II, which is missing the final plate called for, all volumes are complete. As one of the few sources providing detailed insight into the everyday life of an upper-class man during the Restoration period, the diary of Samuel Pepys has become an important primary source. Alongside references to the political and social happenings of 1660 to 1669, Pepys also offers eye witness accounts of events such the Plague of London and the Great Fire of London. As well as sharing more personal revelations, the naval administrator also discusses his routine, the weather, finances, and meals. In volume II, pages 199-122 are untrimmed. The dust jackets remain unclipped in all volumes except volume I, II, III and IX. Book plate of John F Jeeney to recto of front endpaper in volumes I to IX. Volume VIII is found in a protective acetate cover that has two tiny chips in it towards the extremities. With eight pages of maps to the rear of volume X. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with dust wrapper. Dust wrappers are unclipped except in volumes I, II, III and IX. Externally, lovely with just some minor bumping to the head and tail of the spines. The wrap for volume I has a small tear on the inside of the rear board to the fore edge, and there is some minor scuffing to the extremities of the wrap for volume V. Volume VIII is found in a protective acetate cover that has two tiny chips in it towards the extremities. Internally, firmly bound, with bright and clean pages. Fine. book.
