When you end your unprecedentedly long tour of duty in the Philippines, you are entitled to the satisfaction that you not only accomplished well as well as the most successful of your predecessors the mission of riveting Philippine-American friendship, understanding and mutual collaboration but that you have blazed a trail of prudent forthrightness which will do good to both people now and in the years to come.
