Paperback. Condición: Very Good. The seed for my thriller Sleep then My Princess was planted many years ago when I was nine-years-old. Our family went to visit friends. My parents were sitting at their friends' dining table after they had enjoyed a home cooked lunch and the discussion was about a woman who lived across the road from these friends. This woman was minding a pre-school age child from Monday to Friday. This child slept in the chicken shed at night summer and winter and was only cleaned up before her mother came to pick her up on Friday evening. I was shocked as were my parents. This seed grew into a story which is fiction and fact. When I was holidaying in Arizona I came across a news report which had a startling similarity to that long remembered discussion between my parents and their friends and I knew I must write this story.…

Paperback. Condición: Good. True love ignites their passionate pursuit of His call With violent crime on the rise and the political climate changing throughout certain parts of Mexico, the opportunity for open Christian witness, particularly in some areas of Chiapas State, is rapidly decreasing. Hector Rodriguez pastors a small church in the tourist-popular border town of Tijuana. He also routinely carries Bibles deeper into the hostile areas of Mexico, where he ministers despite increasing difficulty and persecution. Hector's mother accompanied him on one of those trips and felt God called her to stay in the little village of San Juan Chamula, where she uses the Scriptures to teach reading to the families who are open to it. In retaliation for Hector's bringing the Bibles into areas hostile to Christians and in an effort to dissuade him from continuing to expand his ministry there, Hector's mother is murdered. Hector must decide if he will continue his work despite his worries about protecting his wife and children. …

Paperback. Condición: Very Good. How much does ethnicity matter to Mexican Americans today, when many marry outside their culture and some can't even stomach menudo? This book addresses that question through a unique blend of quantitative data and firsthand interviews with third-plus-generation Mexican Americans. Latinos are being woven into the fabric of American life, to be sure, but in a way quite distinct from ethnic groups that have come from other parts of the world. By focusing on individuals' feelings regarding acculturation, work experience, and ethnic identity-and incorporating Mexican-Anglo intermarriage statistics-Thomas Macias compares the successes and hardships of Mexican immigrants with those of previous European arrivals. He describes how continual immigration, the growth of the Latino population, and the Chicano Movement have been important factors in shaping the experience of Mexican Americans, and he argues that Mexican American identity is often not merely an ethnic option but a necessary response to stereotyping and interactions with Anglo society.Talking with fifty third-plus generation Mexican Americans from Phoenix and San Jose-representative of the seven million nationally with at least one immigrant grandparent-he shows how people utilize such cultural resources as religion, spoken Spanish, and cross-national encounters to reinforce Mexican ethnicity in their daily lives. He then demonstrates that, although social integration for Mexican Americans shares many elements with that of European Americans, forces related to ethnic concentration, social inequality, and identity politics combine to make ethnicity for Mexican Americans more fixed across generations. Enhancing research already available on first- and second-generation Mexican Americans, Macias's study also complements research done on other third-plus-generation ethnic groups and provides the empirical data needed to understand the commonalities and differences between them. His work plumbs the changing meaning of mestizaje in the Americas over five centuries and has much to teach us about the long-term assimilation and prospects of Mexican-origin people in the United States.…

Paperback. Condición: Good. Want to discover how to pray with power for your kids? Using Philippians 1:3-11 as a guide, we will learn step-by-step how to move from frustration and worry to confidence in the Lord through heaven-moving prayer. As a result, parents can find rest and joy in God's work in their kids lives. In this book Susan Macias explains through personal stories and Scriptural examples how to stop worrying about our kids and pray effectively and powerfully instead. A parent of seven, five of whom are grown, Susan is well-acquainted with the worry and anxiety that plague a mother's heart. But she realized that not only did the worry not help any of her children's problems, but it actually hindered her relationships with her kids. During one particularly trying season, while reading the first chapter of Philippians, she realized it was a perfect outline for prayer. In Unceasing you will learn not only learn the following steps, you will also get real-world examples of how to employ them: Giving thanksFeeling joySeeing like JesusPraying in confidenceLoving like JesusAnd finally, praying for: Abounding loveKnowledge and discernmentUnderstanding of excellenceLife of fruitfulnessEach step build on the one before and through the Lord, has the power to transform the anxiety-laden heart. As you apply the truths in this book you will feel the burden lift and you will watch in amazement as the Lord works in your child's life. Prayer works Included in the book are study questions to help you understand and apply the concepts from the book. There are also Scripture and prayers after each chapter to use as you pray for your child. Excerpts from Unceasing: Since my nagging voice can be a distraction from His still small whispers to them, I have learned to ask myself a series of questions.Am I an impediment to God's work in their lives? Or am I a catalyst?Do I drown out His still, quiet voice? Or do I amplify it?Am I a roadblock to God's plans for them? Or am I an entrance ramp?As a parent, even a praying parent, I quickly become overwhelmed and fearful as I look into the eyes of these giants UNLESS I keep my eyes on the Lord. I have no confidence in my own or my children's ability to face their problems. But my confidence in God's ability to not only face, but conquer, those giants is immeasurable. We might not be able to fix our kids, but we can pray to a God who will.…
