In a new edition, revised and augmented. Tables of facts within the text of first volume, several of which fold-out and with a table of plates contained in the Atlas to front of second volume. Louis Le Chatelier (1815 - 1873) was a French engineer who played a major role in French industry. He studied at the Ecole Polytechnique from 1834 to 1836, and became a mining engineer. He contributed to the development of a method for extracting alumina from bauxite and the introduction of the Siemens-Martin processes in the steel industry, and the development of rail transport. Friend and collaborator of Eugene Flachat, it is one of the developers of Railways in France. Flachat Eugene (1802 - 1873), was a French civil engineer. He worked on one of the first lines of French railway French from Paris - Le Pecq inaugurated August 28, 1837, then to that of Paris to Rouen (1840-1842). Remembered today for redesigning the Gare Saint-Lazare railway station in Paris in 1851 and Other railroad related projects. A street in Paris is named after him and his name appears on the Eiffel tower . A street in Paris is named After HIM and His name appears on the Eiffel tower. With an ink inscription to front blank of first volume. In half morocco bindings with marbled paper covered boards. Externally, generally smart but with slight wear to extremities, with slight closed tear to second volume and very slight loss to paper and occasional marks to boards. Hinges strained to second volume. Internally, firmly bound. Generally bright and clean but with the occasional handling mark and occasional slight foxing to plates in second volume and slight loss to one plate, not affecting diagram. Very Good Indeed. book.
