Consistent with the approach for an employment-centred development strategy, public employment programmes are an integral part of planning and policy in India. Apart from the advantages that accrue to the unemployed, under-employed and the poorly-employed, such programmes have a positive macroeconomic impact via increase in effective demand from the hitherto poor and vulnerable segments of the population. Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), 2005 was notified on September 7, 2005. The Act came into force on February 2, 2006 when 200 selected districts of the country were brought under its purview (Phase I, 2006-07). MGNREGA was extended to additional 130 districts in Phase II during 2007-08. The remaining rural areas were notified with effect from April 1, 2008. The objective of the MGNREGA is to enhance the livelihood security of unorganised workers in rural areas by guaranteeing 100 days of wage employment in a financial year to a rural household whose members volunteer to do unskilled manual work. The Act further aims at creating durable assets and strengthening the livelihood resource base of the rural poor. The choice of works suggested in the Act address causes of chronic poverty like drought, deforestation, soil erosion etc. so that the process of employment generation is on a sustainable basis. This work traces the origin and development of MGNREGA and analyses its impact in rural areas in terms of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), wage rate, financial inclusion, budgetary allocations, labour migration, governance and environmental concerns. …

The external payments crisis of 1991 which led to the initiation of economic reforms in India was the result of deteriorating fiscal situation during the latter half of 1980s. Fiscal imbalance was identified as the underlying cause of the twin problems of inflation and the difficult balance of payments position. Financial literacy deals with knowledge and skills which allow an individual to make informed and effective decisions with regard to his financial resources. An understanding of basic financial concepts allows people to navigate in the financial system successfully. People with financial literacy training make better financial decisions than those without it. Financial literacy involves proficiency in financial principles, financial planning, debt management, saving techniques and the time value of money. Lack of financial literacy can lead to poor financial decisions including money loss, indebtedness and other negative consequences on the financial well-being of an individual. The concept of financial inclusion has a special significance in India because a large segment of the society, particularly low-income earners, has little access to financial services, both formal and semi-formal. Resultantly, many of them have to depend either on their own or high cost informal sources of finance such as moneylenders. The essence of financial inclusion is to ensure that a range of appropriate financial services are available to all individuals to enable them to understand and access those services. The present volume contains 8 research papers on financial literacy and financial inclusion authored by experts in the field. These scholarly contributions provide deep insights into the various aspects and problems associated with the twin policy goals of financial literacy and financial inclusion. (jacket).…

References. The concept of healthy or the functional food is becoming popular in global food scenario because of its positive link with spreading of lifestyle diseases. As a consequence of this, the evaluation of nutritional and functional quality of food and food ingredients is becoming indispensable. Worldwide, many food components are being taken up for evaluation of nutritional and functional quality. Among the long array of the functional foods, fish has a long history of preventing humankind from many chronic lifestyle diseases of old ages, and it is taken equally by rich and poor people for their inherent functionality and nutritional potential respectively. Coldwater fish not only contains long-chain n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 LC-PUFAs; eicosapentaenoic acid, EPA and docosahexaenoic acid, DHA), but it is also a source of other health promoting bioactive components, such as vitamin D and A, selenium, iron, zinc, manganese, etc. Fish is a rich source of protein. Because of the presence of these intrinsically balanced desirable nutrients and inherent bio-active components, fish comes to everyone's plate irrespective of rich or poor, young or old, healthy or unhealthy. Considering the importance of fish in human health, ICAR-Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research (ICAR-DCFR), Bhimtal took the responsibility of evaluating the nutrient composition of coldwater fishes under the umbrella of ICAR's network project #3 "Nutrient profiling and evaluation of fish as a dietary component" with a view to generate knowledge base on nutrient quality and to popularize fish consumption. With the sincere efforts of the ICAR-DCFR, nutrient composition data of 24 coldwater fish species are now available and we are sure that the present book "Fish as Health Food" will provide very useful information on the nutrient profile of coldwater fishes and their prospects in human nutrition for consumers. This book will serve as a knowledge base and an indispensable reference to the physicians, dieticians, scientists, teachers, students and other stakeholders to understand the nutritional significance of fishes and cold water fish species in particular.…

172 Seiten Name entry; Very good condition. Cover & pages without marks. --- What is hatred? How does it differ from rage? What are its origins? Is hatred ever rational? Why are some people unable to let go of it while others are completely incapable of feeling it? Eight distinguished psychoanalysts provide the answers to these and other related questions in this tightly organized volume. With the help of clinical vignettes and literary portrayals, these experienced therapists address the emergence of hatred in the clinical situation. They highlight the various purposes served by the patient's hatred including drive discharge, projective identification, defense against dependence, anchoring of identity, and self holding. They also present a rich understanding of the hatred felt by the therapist vis-a-vis hateful and chronically self-destructive individuals. Finally, they discuss the technical implications of these concepts and delineate useful interventions to contain, manage, and interpret the patient's intense hatred. The matters discussed in this book are diverse and include infant observation, gender differences, child abuse, severe character pathology, multiple personality, countertransference difficulties, literary characters, racial prejudice, ethnic hatred, and war. The focus of the book, however, remains clinical. Its ultimate aim is to enhance the clinician's ability to deal with the hatred felt by the patient, and, at times, by the therapist. 9781568214283 Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 509 Gr.-8° (22,5-25 cm), Softcover/Paperback.…
