Luke Lyman was a descendant of one of the earliest settlers of Northampton, Massachusetts, Lieutenant John Lyman (1623-1690), who emigrated to America with his parents Richard (1580-1640) and Sarah Lyman (1585-1641) in 1631, aboard the ship ?Lion? All are buried at the Bridge Street Cemetery in Northampton. Includes certificate dated December 26, 1870, naming George W. Hubbard of Hatfield, executor of Sophia Smith?s estate. Deacon George Warner Hubbard (1818-1888) was a close friend of Sophia Smith (1796-1870) and was named in Smith?s last will and testament as one of two executors.
