Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: new. Paperback. What if time was an illusion and past, present and future would all exist simultaneously? According to a thesis by physicist Craig Callender, it only depends on which method we use to segment continuous space-time. This idea was an inspiration to conceptual artist Luis Camnitzer--born 1937 in Luebeck, raised in Uruguay, living in New York since 1964, where he works as artist, teacher, critic and art scholar. In 2011 Luis Camnitzer took a collection of essays by Umberto Eco and put them back into a new order according to an alternative method of editing. Camnitzer's Eco Book consists of 104 pages that seem hieroglyphic at first, filled with indecipherable arcane structures and signs, rendering the common mechanisms of interpretation absurd. The illegible pages are interleaved simultaneous signifiers. More than to merely look at signs, there is a need to alter them. What if time were an illusion and past, present and future all existed Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

A singularly authoritative--yet also anti-authoritative--gathering of a life's work in art, education and activism.A singularly authoritative-yet also anti-authoritative-gathering of a life's work in art, education and activism. For more than half a century, the artist Luis Camnitzer has been concerned with the same things. The essays gathered in this book outline a radically democratic and frequently provocative vision of both art and education. In the first essay, written in 1960, Camnitzer proposes curricular change of the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes in Uruguay, part of a collective effort to bring the school up to the ideal level Camnitzer and fellow artists, students, and educators desired. And in the final essay Camnitzer sums up what he would want an art school to be if he applied to one today-suggesting (with typical dry wit) that the first effort to improve art education may not have succeeded.Working across such mediums as printmaking, sculpture, language, and installations, Camnitzer's work investigates how power is exercised and can be challenged in society. An influential teacher, over the six decades covered by this volume, he has interrogated the power structures inherent to the practice of art at the same time as he explores its liberating potential. Many of these texts are published here for the first time. The book offers a singularly authoritative-yet also anti-authoritative-gathering of a life's work in art, education and activism. A witty, touching and delightful exploration of holes from the author of The VolumeA handsomely designed picture-book for children and adults, The Hole Book explores the many meanings, associations and forms of holes in a delightful narrative of discovery. The book's narrator is an explorer full of questions and curiosity: "Some holes I dug myself. I poked my finger into slices of bread, sheets of paper, and the sand of beaches all over the world." When they grow up they become an explorer of holes, visiting caves, grottos, mineshafts, springs and cavities, making maps of their adventures. Failing to find any literature on the topic, they decided to write their own book celebrating holes.Author Luis Camnitzer is a celebrated artist known for art that deconstructs accepted frameworks and exposes systems of power. Here he continues to provoke wonder with appeal to people of all ages.Luis Camnitzer (born 1937) is a German-born Uruguayan artist, curator, art critic and academic who was at the forefront of 1960s Conceptual art. From the dot to the line to infinity: a whimsical children's book about space and spatiality, with colorful illustrations and a large gatefold that illuminates the story. One very dark night, a long time ago, there was a big explosion. It was the "Big Bang." From the "Big Bang," a dot flew off by itself and began to explore. But all around it was empty space. The dot became lonely, so it split in two, which was fun at first. But then the two dots grew bored of each other, so they began to multiply until they formed something entirely new: a line. The line replicated until it became a surface, and the surface repeated until it became a 3-dimensional shape: the volume. A stray line then pulled off the volume and began to explore shape, color and pattern to create the magic of writing and art. This whimsical adventure-filled with imaginative text, mind-expanding illustrations and with an impressive double gatefold "to infinity"-takes readers of all ages on a journey through concepts that are the foundation of both art and life.Author Luis Camnitzer is a celebrated artist known for art that deconstructs accepted frameworks and exposes systems of power. In The Volume, he turns his powers of observation to familiar visual ideas and helps us to see them anew.
