Titolo e testo in francese e tedesco. Pagine (2) 223 (2) Con 60 belle incisioni a colori raffiguranti costumi tipici di 22 Cantoni svizzeri. Di ognuna si specifica il Cantone, ma solamente in tedesco il nome del personaggio rappresentato. Ogni tavola preceduta da carta velina. Pagine e tavole in perfetto stato. Piccolo taglio tra cuffia e piatto. Una piccola macchia di inchiostro interessa p. 49 e il verso della tavola che la precede. Due veline con mancanze ai margini. Parte del colore del piatto anteriore virato a marrone cuoio per differenza di esposizione alla luce. Timbro a secco alla seconda bianca. Ottimo (bq) Shipping cost depends on weight and country. Beautiful costume book, depicting costumes from the 22 Swiss cantons in 60 hand coloured full-page plates. The plates are engraved by Franz Niklaus König (1765-1832), and Gabriel Lory (1763-1840). Especially König was a well-known and respected artist in his time, who started his independent career in 1768 with engraved Swiss costume plates. According to Thieme-Becker, most of the present plates were first published from 1801 in the Helvetischen Almanach. With two paper library labels on the spine, and the library stamp of the F. F. Bibliothek Donaueschingen on the verso of the title page. The spine is slightly discoloured, with traces of wear at the head and foot, the joints are slightly weakened. Internally in very good condition.l Colas 1654; cf. Lipperheide 904 (1811 ed.); Thieme-Becker XXI, p. 160 (Koenig); Thieme-Becker XXIII, p. 399 (Lory). Contemporary gold-tooled red paper, blind-tooled with a straight-grained morocco pattern, the title lettered in gold on the spine, a single fillet border on both boards, gilt edges. With 60 engraved plates of Swiss costumes, separated by tissue paper guards, all beautifully coloured by hand. Pages: 223, [4] pp.

Lacking slipcase, which almost certainly acccompanied the volume originally. Light green morocco binding with several areas of color loss and/or staining -- the color is uneven throughout front board in particular, and spine is entirely off-white now. Joints are rubbed, and a touch of starting, upper front. Spine comes off somewhat gritty. Interior is generally clean, fresh, and tight, and by itself, we would grade it close to Fine. With binding imperfections, we see the book as Very Good Plus.
