The earliest records of the family date back to the 14th century with surnames De Elefantonibus, De Faritonibus, De Fantonis Fantonus, Fantonis, becoming Fantoni in the 18th century. Despite the high artistic quality of their works, the Fantoni family didn`t become known to the wide public and their works are known mainly to art historians.
