Añadir al carritoCloth. Condición: Good. No Jacket. First Edition. First Printing. SIGNED by one of the authors on the front endpaper: "Herbert L. Lombard". Massachusetts' role in the pioneering of cancer study, facilities, treatment and prevention in the United States. From the Preface: "Shortly after the war a movement was instigated in Massachusetts to provide care and treatment for cancer patients. The health offficials felt that this was outside the realm of public health. They could justify well-baby clinincs; they could justify treatment for venereal disease, as the cure of a case removed a potential spreader of the disease; but it seemed difficult to justify from the point of view of prevention the inclusion of a program for a disease like cancer. The people, however, demanded with increasing insistence that action be taken, and through a legislative resolve passed in 1926 the Massachusetts Department of Public Health was committed to a program of cancer control. A short time later the American Public Health Association took the stand that cancer was a public health activity. Other state and city health departments started programs of varying scope for cancer control." 10 Chapters: The Problem and Our Conclusions; New Approach to the Chronic Disease Problem; Incidence of Chronic Disease; Certain Etiological Factors in Chronic Disease; Care and Treatment of Chronic Disease; Hospitalization of Chronic Disease; Economics of Chronic Disease; Studies of Chronic Disease From the Death Records; The Massachusetts Cancer Program; Statistical Studies on Cancer in Massachusetts.
