Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Apples Be Ripe by Llewelyn Powys, green cloth,1st edition. Published by Longmans Green and Co, 1930. "Apples Be Ripe" is a lyrical and provocative novel by Llewelyn Powys that challenges the rigid social and moral conventions of its era. The narrative follows Chris Holbech, a disillusioned schoolmaster who chooses to abandon his stifling, conventional life in favor of a wandering, hedonistic existence in the English countryside. Seeking a more authentic connection to the natural world and the raw sensations of life, Holbech's journey becomes a vibrant celebration of physical existence and a defiant rejection of Victorian asceticism. Powys's prose is celebrated for its earthy vitality and its evocative descriptions of the rural landscape. Through the protagonist's encounters and philosophical reflections, the work explores deep themes of individual freedom, sexual liberation, and the inherent conflict between societal expectations and personal desire. "Apples Be Ripe" stands as a significant contribution to early twentieth-century literature, offering a pagan-like appreciation for the beauty of the earth and a profound meditation on the brevity of human life. This work remains a compelling read for those interested in pastoral fiction and the literary exploration of the human spirit's quest for joy and liberation. "some cloth wear, corner stubs, spine fray and tears, name inside, some foxing spots, clean and tight" BX48.…

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good. 1st Edition. Glory of Life by Llewelyn Powys, hardcover in dustjacket, 1st edition. frontispiece in photogravure. Published by Bodley Head, 1938. Blindstamp 1st blank page for Henry "Hal" G. Bieler an American physician and germ theory denialist, best known for his book Food is Your Best Medicine. Into this short essay, Llewelyn Powys put the quintessence of his beliefs and philosophy. Those beliefs have been reached by careful thought and after a varied experience of life in which to test them: and his philosophy, ancient in its pagan origins, was nonetheless a philosophy independently arrived at, by trial and error. Llewelyn Powys believed simply and passionately in the texts he is preaching here, and nowhere in his writings is there a more eloquent, persuasive or happy expression of them. Happiness is in fact the key: this man who did not believe in Christianity, or any God except the "life-giving sun", and who believed death to be the end of all things, proclaims as an exciting gospel his sense of wonder at the daily rising of the sun, and the nightly curtain of stars. "jacket wear, tear, toning, some cloth bleaching, clean and tight".…

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. CONFESSIONS OF TWO BROTHERS JOHN COWPER POWYS & LLEWELLY POWYS 1916 1ST AMERICAN. John Cowper Powys was an accomplished author when this book appeared; this was the first book published by his brother Llewellyn. I am pleased to offer: Confessions of Two Brothers, by John Cowper Powys and Llewellyn Powys. This small hard cover book (5 x 7 ¼ inches, 265 pages) was published by the Manas Press of Rochester, New York, dated 1916 and the First American Edition. The book is bound in dark blue cloth boards with handsome paste-down paper title labels on cover and spine. The first 175 pages are occupied by a sort of pre-biography from Brother John while the final 100 pages or so, by a similar pre-autobiography, was done by Brother Llewellyn. Condition: This book stands out because it is in very good condition, especially given its 100 years of age. The hard covers are generally clean, not too badly bumped and with a minor abrasion on the front board just below the title label. The title labels are in very good condition and quite handsome (please see the photos). Inside, there is an inked gift inscription on the front endpaper but that is the only mark I found in the book. The interior pages are remarkably clean and bright, from cover to cover. The last two blank pages have been torn out. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight, sound and square. This book is not ex-library or a remainder. It is indeed really in remarkable condition and you will be pleased to see it on your bookshelf. …

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the complexities of the human mind and the profound relationship between self-awareness and the world around us. Through a series of introspective observations, the author explores the elusive nature of consciousness, the power of sensation, and the enduring influence of fate. The author examines the inner workings of their own consciousness, drawing comparisons with historical figures like Pepys, Casanova, Rousseau, Goethe, Saint Augustine, and Oscar Wilde, all of whom, like themself, have attempted to capture the essence of self through writing. The author, however, grapples with the unique challenge of being both a keen observer of human nature and simultaneously a detached individual who struggles to connect with their own emotional core. The book probes the philosophical underpinnings of materialism, the elusive nature of faith, and the profound influence of artistic expression on our understanding of the world. Ultimately, the author seeks to reconcile the seemingly contradictory impulses within their own being: a yearning for connection and a profound skepticism about the possibility of finding meaning in the grand scheme of things. This book offers a unique perspective on the human condition and invites readers to ponder the mysteries of existence alongside the author's introspective journey. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
