Scattered stains and faint creases present on some plates and glassine sheets. Very faint contemporary ownership inscription on title page, with faint blind stamp from a different former owner. This is the most well-known work of Scottish surgeon John Lizars, who served as professor of surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and senior surgeon at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. This volume is "still ranked amongst the greatest ever produced in that era" (Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh). This is the atlas volume, containing numerous hand-colored plates engraved by John Lizars' brother, William Lizars; the text volume is not included here. 1410011. Special Collections.
