An excellent copy.Francis Farquhar's copy with his usual pencil signature on the front fly and a business car tipped onto the rear endapaper that reads "Francis. Mr. Dawson was kind enough to let me know of something for your library so that could say thanks in some tangible way, Bob [and penciled in '6-18-58 John Robert White]." Perhaps a relative of the subject of this book."Two years before Powell and his men emerged from the Grand Canyon?s depths, a sunburnt, blistered, starved, half-clothed and half-dead bearded man, leashed to a log raft, arrived at Callville, Nevada, on Sept. 7, 1867. Parry's interview and letter concerning the claims of James White's famed first descent through the Grand Canyon on a crude raft, and surviving to be picked up at Calville, together with "First edition, 1 of 300 copies printed," of Lingenfelter's analysis of the controversy between White's supporter claims, and supporter's claims of Powell's expedition two years later.
