Añadir al carritoFirst edition. One of 300 copies printed at the Westernlore Press. Small octavo. 119, [1] pp. Publisher's quarter beige linen over blue boards, printed paper spine label. An excellent copy.Francis Farquhar's copy with his usual pencil signature on the front fly and a business car tipped onto the rear endapaper that reads "Francis. Mr. Dawson was kind enough to let me know of something for your library so that could say thanks in some tangible way, Bob [and penciled in '6-18-58 John Robert White]." Perhaps a relative of the subject of this book."Two years before Powell and his men emerged from the Grand Canyon?s depths, a sunburnt, blistered, starved, half-clothed and half-dead bearded man, leashed to a log raft, arrived at Callville, Nevada, on Sept. 7, 1867. Barely alive, with bruises, welts and recent scars, he was incoherent. His skin was dark brown like mahogany, his hair matted and bleached. Slowly, he recovered from dehydration. His mind cleared. He called himself James White" (A. Guilliford, 2019). James White's story is here recounted in full for the first time.
