Trade paperback. Condición: Very good. Presumed First Edition/First Printing. [2], iii, [1], 276, [6] pages. Inscribed on Dedication page. Cover has slight wear and soiling. James Lillis was born in Brooklyn, New York, in the summer of 1950. During childhood, he was relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, at age 5, because of his fat…her's work. He remained in Nashville until age 12, at which time his family was again relocated back to Brooklyn. He then spent his teen years and twenties living for the most part in the East Flatbush section of Brooklyn. In 1980, he left Brooklyn and relocated to the Washington, DC area. This seems to be the first appearance of this novel, which also was published in the 2003 time period by iUniverse and Writers Club. At time of cataloguing, no other signed copies were available. A Walk in Dreams tells the story of a boy growing up in the tough neighborhoods of Brooklyn, N.Y. during the 1960s and his struggles with emotional violence-covert violence, as well as overt. It was a time when even outlaws had morals and ethics-when guys were guys, and girls were girls. And often the twain would meet. It speaks, in a very personal way, to many of the things that have come to plague our inner city youth as they move from childhood to adulthood-alcohol, drugs, sex, and violence. Underneath all the ambiguity and violence, there emerges the special warmth and a richness that dwells within the heart and spirit of the main character. It shows the humanity and honesty of character that has often been lost in the past thirty years. The story follows the struggles of young Cashel as he tries to find his way and set his moral compass. He neither belongs with the good guys nor the bad guys. He battles daily with issues of both Heaven and Hell. And yet feels he has been protected, at times by both. Rising from the despair of youth, emerges a message that is very anti-suicidal, and a reminder that, even in the worst of circumstances, one should never give up. Brutally honest and frighteningly real, A Walk in Dreams is a dark romantic novel rich in poetic prose. Janet R. Terner (b. 1938) is a fine-art photographer based in Delaware. Her photographs of Delaware nature and architecture have won numerous prizes. The polymathic Ms. Terner is also the author of The Courage to Be Imperfect: The Life and Work of Rudolf Dreikurs (1978), and worked for many years in the Library of Congress, where she edited and compiled a number of bibliographic reference works, including Biographical sources in the sciences. Terner attended Shimer College in Illinois at the age of 16 (thanks to Shimer's early entrant program), graduating in 1958. She holds a master's degree in the history of natural science from the University of Wisconsin. Janet Terner (Cover design) (ilustrador).
