Première édition, très rare. Elle fut réédité par J.B. Baillière en 1819 au sein d'un volume comportant trois autres… thèses (de Renard, Laisne et Rieux) et intitulé Médecine Légale ; l'éditeur indiqua : "cet ouvrage se compose de quatre Thèses des plus importantes soutenues sur les principaux points de cette science, à la Faculté de Médecine de Paris. Dispersées dans une vaste collection, et devenues très-rares, il était extrêmement difficile de se les procurer." Cette thèse de Lecieux est basée sur 400 expériences faites à la Maternité. Elle a été inspirée par Chaussier, professeur d'anatomie et de physiologie à la Faculté de médecine de Paris et pionnier de la médecine légale (il rédigea son premier ouvrage sur le sujet en 1789 et obtint en 1823 la création à Paris d'une chaire de médecine légale). Cette thèse est divisée en 5 chapitres : Déterminer l'âge de l'enfant ou l'époque de la grossesse ; déterminer quelle a été la nature, la durée du travail de l'accouchement ; déterminer si l'enfant dont on examine le corps est mort avant, pendant ou après l'accouchement - table comparative du poids des poumons (comparé au poids du corps) d'enfants qui sont morts avant, pendant ou après l'accouchement ; déterminer depuis quel temps l'enfant est mort ; déterminer si la mort peut être attribuée à quelque violence, et quelle en est l'espèce. On trouve in fine un rapport sur un cas d'infanticide. Antoine Lecieux (ou Le Cieux) devint chef du service de santé des hôpitaux de Bayeux.
