Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: new. Paperback. Titletown USA is the proud moniker of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and this book examines how the Green Bay Packers, led by head coach Vince Lombardi, became the championship prototype by which other teams measured their success in the NFL's formative years. In the 1960s, Lombardi's Packers turned the smallest national market in the NFL into the home of the most successful football team in league history. The first team to win five titles in a seven-year span, the Green Bay Packers became synonymous with championships as the NFL emerged on the forefront of the national sports scene. Magnificent Seven gathers anecdotes and strategy from the squads that won the three NFL Championships in 1961, 1962, and 1965, Super Bowls I and II, as well as the NFC Championships in 1966 and 1967. No other NFL team has won as many championships as the Green Bay Packers, which was led by Vince Lombardi through seven championship wins from 1961 to 1968 . The amazing exploits of this team are brought to life through award-winning photography by Vernon and John Biever. Lombardi provides the Afterword. Photos. Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good. Vernon Biever (Photographer) and John Biever (Phot Ilustrador. Presumed First Edition, First printing. Ex-library with the usual markings. DJ is in a plastic sleeve, pasted to the boards. Contents include: Foreword by Paul Hornung; Acknowledgments; Introduction by Bart Starr; The 1961 NFL Championship Game; The 1962 NFL Championship Game; The 1965 NFL Championship Game; The 1966 NFL Championship Game; 1967: The First Super Bowl; The 1967 NFL Championship Game; Super Bowl II; Afterward by Vince Lombardi Jr; and Index. Magnificent Seven brings a out only those seven games, but also to share in little-known stories from the legend of Vince Lombardi. Merlyn "Bud" Lea was the beat reporter for the Milwaukee Sentinel when the Green Bay Packers won the first two Super Bowls. Lea was hired by the Sentinel in 1953 and covered his first Packers games that season. He covered the Packers for 19 seasons. He subsequently covered them as the Sentinel's sports editor and columnist prior to his retirement in 1995. Thereafter, Lea continued to write columns about the team for Packer Plus, a weekly magazine. Lea was known for his thorough, objective and aggressive coverage of the team. In fact, the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame adopted an award in his name. Lea also authored "Magnificent Seven: The Championship Games That Built the Lombardi Dynasty," which was published in 2002. Lea covered all nine of Vince Lombardi's teams, including the five that won NFL championships in the 1960s. At the national level, Lea covered 30 Super Bowls. Lea's most memorable years as a writer were covering Lombardi's teams. Vernon Biever was the official team photographer for the Green Bay Packers starting in 1946. He was inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame in 2002. John Biever was a staff photographer for Sports Illustrated. Vincent Thomas Lombardi (June 11, 1913 - September 3, 1970) was an American football coach and executive in the National Football League (NFL). He is best known as the head coach of the Green Bay Packers during the 1960s, where he led the team to three straight and five total NFL Championships in seven years, in addition to winning the first two Super Bowls at the conclusion of the 1966 and 1967 NFL seasons. Lombardi began his coaching career as an assistant and later as a head coach at St. Cecilia High School in Englewood, New Jersey. He was an assistant coach at Fordham, the United States Military Academy and the New York Giants before becoming head coach of the Green Bay Packers from 1959 to 1967 and the Washington Redskins in 1969. He never had a losing season as head coach in the NFL, compiling a regular-season winning percentage of 73.8% (96-34-6), and 90% (9-1) in the postseason for an overall record of 105 wins, 35 losses and 6 ties in the NFL. Lombardi is considered by many to be the greatest coach in football history, and he is recognized as one of the greatest coaches and leaders in the history of all American sports. The year after his sudden death from cancer in 1970, he was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and the NFL Super Bowl trophy was named in his honor.
