A scarce copy of Tanaquil Le Clercq's celebrated Ballet Cook Book. Le Clercq, then wife of George Balanchine, was a principal dancer of the New York City Ballet. She retired from dancing after contracting polio and went on to write about ballet. Knowing ballet performers' predilection for fine and sustaining food, she asked her friends and fellow dancers for recipes to put towards a cook book. The contributions she received were expansive and represent cuisine from around the world. Contributors include Frederick Ashton, George Balanchine, Leslie Caron, Ninette de Valois, Margot Fonteyn, Tamara Karsavina, Serge Lifar, Rudolf Nureyev, Jerome Robbins and many others.
