Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. 1st Edition. Lazar, Oscar: Les Ouvriers de la Paix [The Workers of Peace] - (129 Portrait Lithograph Album.) Genf (Genéve), 1928. Author. 129 p. (129 Portrait Lithograph) Publisher's binding, landscape format, full cloth binding. Scarce. (Collated & Complete) A primary historical document and artistic portfolio from the golden age of interwar European diplomacy. Hungarian-born graphic artist Oscar Lazar (Lázár Oszkár), acting as the "court portraitist" of the League of Nations (SDN) and the International Labour Organization (ILO/BIT) in Geneva, captured the era's most important statesmen, diplomats, scientists, and peace activists up close and in person. The year 1928 marked the pinnacle of international peace efforts and diplomatic optimism (the year the Kellogg-Briand Pact, which sought to outlaw war, was signed). This monumental, 129-piece edition is the artist's most comprehensive, encyclopedic work. Since these unbound portfolios were typically broken up by collectors over the decades to frame the graphics individually, the survival rate of intact, complete 129-plate sets is minimal. It is a rarity on the level of international public collections (e.g., the French National Library, the UN Archives in Geneva). The most prominent historical figures included in this portfolio: Fridtjof NANSEN (Norway): Legendary polar explorer, Nobel Peace Prize-winning politician, and High Commissioner for Refugees of the League of Nations. Creator of the famous "Nansen passport". Sir Austen CHAMBERLAIN (Great Britain): British Foreign Secretary and co-architect of the 1925 Locarno Treaties, for which he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Count Albert APPONYI (Hungary): Head of the Hungarian delegation. Known as the "Grand Old Man of Europe," his charismatic figure commanded immense respect in Genevan diplomatic circles. Mineichiro ADACHI (Japan): Brilliant international lawyer, Japanese member of the Council of the League of Nations, and later President of the Permanent Court of International Justice in The Hague. (The lithograph features the diplomat's original signature in Japanese characters). C. CHAO / Zhao Chunbing (China): Secretary General of the Permanent Bureau of the Chinese Delegation to the League of Nations, a key figure in China's diplomatic efforts in Geneva. Edvard BENES (Czechoslovakia): Foreign Minister (and later President) of Czechoslovakia, one of the most active diplomats in the League of Nations. Juan Antonio BUERO (Uruguay): Chief Legal Adviser to the Secretariat of the League of Nations. (Collector's curiosity: Oscar Lazar mistakenly inscribed "Cuba" instead of Uruguay next to his name on the lithograph plate, making this specific piece a unique historical misprint). Dame Rachel CROWDY (Great Britain): The only woman to hold a department head position in the League of Nations (Head of the Social Questions Section). Maurice BAUMONT (France): Member of the League of Nations Secretariat, later a world-renowned professor of history. etc. ( O,O ) /)__) , . Lázár, Oszkár (1890 -1967) (ilustrador).…

Couverture rigide. | [ENGLISH DESCRIPTION FOLLOWS] Collection assembled by the artist of 82 lithographs created between 1939 and 1940 after his drawings. All are portraits of the teaching staff of the University of Geneva, in black or lithographic crayon, and bear as caption the name of the model and the author's signature, as well as a date. We may distinguish the portrait of Jean Piaget, which was widely used as an image of the psychologist. The paper usually employed is that used for drawing, and the qualities of the lithography suggest that these are original drawings; it is thought that the author possessed his own press and made his lithographs. Contemporary full marbled citron sheep binding. Smooth spine, silver title. On the cover, in silver letters: Université de Genève, with the arms below, and at bottom right: Oscar Lazar, 1941. Rubbing and some surface wear. The artist would have his collections of original drawings similarly bound, this binding serving as a personalized binding for Lazar's works. Inscription: Dédié à Monsieur Albert Lagier. Chêne-Bougerie, le 20.IV. 1942. Lazar. ["Dedicated to Monsieur Albert Lagier. Chêne-Bougerie, 20.IV. 1942. Lazar."] Albert Lagier was then rector of the Academy of Geneva. Draughtsman and portraitist of Hungarian origin, Oscar Lazar settled in Geneva in 1924. He published several works on Genevan, Swiss and international personalities after his drawings (Rotary, Saint-Moritz, Zurich, League of Nations). The Geneva library possesses original drawings. * 82 feuilles.…
