[Supplement to the Sunday Edition of the New York Press]; B & W Half-tones and pictorial ads; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 44 pages; September 26, 1897. Single issue weekly magazine published as a supplement to the New York Press Sunday edition Newspaper. The run of issues with the title of "Iroquois" was short; in October 1897 the supplement was retitled "Sunday Magazine of Intelligence and Entertainment." Octavo paperback in pictorial title lettered covers over a side stapled binding. Pictorial cover from art work by Charles Charpiot in a style informed by art nouveau and the work of Aubrey Beardsley. This issue contains an illustrated feature on Spokane and Washington State written by the pioneering American business woman, Alice Houghton. Also included are a pair of speculative spiritist/paranormal informed stories by dime novel writers, Alvah Milton Kerr & Lawrence Irwel - respectively titles "Strange Sacrifice" and "The Celestial Smoker." Also includes two artist studio photographs by Beatrice Tonnesson. Also featured are a number of short stories and poems. Pictorial ad section of several pages at rear. This copy is clean and neat with just superficial soiling to covers. Quite scarce; only the NY Public Library holds a few physical issues of this short lived magazine. VG++.
