Condición: Good. Wood-engraving on thin rice paper 5.25 x 3.25 inches on sheet size 17 x 11 inches. The English language version isAbdias the Jew, a tale of Hungary; and, Hochwald, a story of the Thirty Years' War. London : R. Bentley, 1851:Graham's American Monthly Magazine of Literature, Art, and .George R. Graham, ?Edgar Allan Poe, ?Charles Jacobs Peterson - 1853We will pass over the youth of Abdias, with the remark, that it was spent amid a . Abdias submissively mounted the camel which knelt down to receive its light .".clung fast with both his hands to the camel, knowing it to be stronger than . Abdias was also careful that the two beasts, the camel and the ass, should feed only ."Der afrikanische Jude Abdias lebt in der Wüste und hortet seine Schätze. Martha B. Helfer :AbstractAn essay analyzes the discursive construction of ?the Jew" in conjunction with nature metaphors in Stifter's Abdias, and argues that the novella inscribes an anti-assimilationist political agenda. Read as a document in the debate about the ?Jewish question," Abdias is a cautionary text about the Judaizing of Austrian society: its nature, its economy, and its art. Ref. Condición: Good. Etching. 28.5 x 21cm. Betty Lark-Horovitz (1894-1995) was an artist of international renown. She was commissioned to do etchings of several buildings at Purdue University in 1930. These buildings were Ladies Hall, The Old Dormitory, The Pharmacy Building, University Hall and the Mechanical Engineering Building. The etchings, one of which was in color, were issued in a limited edition. There were only 100 sets, each numbered and signed by the artist. Mr. W. H. Winterrowd, M. E., 1907 conceived of the idea of having the etchings done, and he underwrote the cost, and presented the entire 100 sets to Purdue University. The sets were to be sold and the entire income from their sale was to go to the University. They were sold at $100 per set. Betty was the wife of Dr. Karl Lark-Horovitz who was the head of the Department of Physics at Purdue from 1929 to the 1950s. After his death in 1958, she moved to Berkeley, CA.Ref.
