The work is divided into three parts discussing the treatment of silks, wools and yarns, the preparation of textiles and the different stages of the colouring process. Instructions are given for applying methods and natural pigments required to achieve a particular desired colour. The engraved plates show multiple operations of the Madrid Royal Factory with workmen engaged in various tasks for dyeing fabrics with their tools and equipment such as vats, tables and kilns. The large folding engraving at the end represents a layout of the factory floor offering a panorama of the activities and processes involved.
