hardcover. Condición: Very Good. First Edition. Publication: London, The Library Association, 1966 Formatting: 8vo, pp. 256. Condition Report: Very Good. The book is securely bound in its original green cloth, remaining notably tight with only slight rubbing to the extremities and mild bumping to the spine ends. The text block is pleasingly square, with edges displaying light, age-appropriate toning and minor dust-dulling to the top edge. Internally, the pages are clean, bright, and free from significant foxing, save for a standard previous owner's signature dated 'March 74' to the front free endpaper. The unclipped dust jacket presents well but shows signs of typical shelf-wear, notably slight chipping and minor closed tears along the top edge, accompanied by some rubbing and light surface toning to the spine panel and folds. Catalogue Note: A First Edition of this comprehensive bibliographic study, issued by The Library Association. The work provides a meticulously structured overview of John Cowper Powysâs extensive literary output, complemented by a photographic frontispiece depicting a sculpted portrait head of Powys by Miriam Bryans. The book's provenance includes a contemporary ownership inscription to the preliminary leaf, whilst the text itself remains free from further markings. Though standard copies are generally accessible on the open market, those retaining a respectable original dust jacket are increasingly appreciated by collectors of twentieth-century literary criticism and the Powys circle. John Cowper Powys: A Record of Achievement serves as an indispensable bibliographic guide and critical tribute to one of the twentieth century's most idiosyncratic and visionary writers. Derek Langridge painstakingly catalogues Powys's multifaceted career, spanning novels, philosophical essays, and poetry, while offering insightful commentary on the evolution of his thought and his initial literary reception. Essential for scholars and dedicated enthusiasts alike, this reference work remains a foundational cornerstone for navigating the vast and complex landscape of Powys's imaginative universe.
