Though Nasjonalgalleriet in Oslo, Norway contains mostly 19th and 20th century Norwegian painting, in 1923 the museum was fortunate to receive 21 paintings by the Italian Old Masters from Christian Langaard, a Norwegian collector. This collection spans from the Renaissance period until ca. 1800. In connection with the exhibition Venetian Masterpieces from Pitti Palace in Florence at Nasjonalgalleriet in 1999-2000, the Langaard collection, a central core, was also shown.
