Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: No Dust Jacket. B&W Illustrations; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 204 pages; Decorative green cloth boards have some soiling, shelfwear, corners bumped. Spine has small tear at top. Previous owner's name on FFEP blacked out with ink. Pages yellowed. Undated but ca. 1900 This appears to be a series of German fairy tales, translated from the German. There is no table of contents or introduction but the final chapter, called Conclusion which seems to be a conversation between the members of an English family. It is almost as if the parents are teaching the youngsters to be be guided by the lessons of the fairy tales. The stories are:The Palace of Egg-shells; The Playfellow; The Grateful Mouse; The Naughty Children; The Mittens; The Fisherman's Tom Thumb; The Money-box of Little Max; The Little Gray Man; The Comforting Angel; The Christmas Tree; The May-beetle; The Little Tormentor and a few others. The quality of the paper (quite tanned) would make for very poor images of the B&W illustrations. The paper has a heavy, sturdy quality.

Cf. Hoefer. | [ENGLISH DESCRIPTION FOLLOWS] First edition of the illustrated French translation, with 2 maps (one folding), in-text figures, and 5 steel-engraved plates by Fauchery (see Chadenat 2669. Añadir al carritoSmall Octavo. In 7 volumes illustrated by the author Sarah W. Lander. Each volume with a wood-engraved frontispiece and title page along with a regular title page. Each book has approx. 200 pages with publishers' ads at rear. These travelogues were among the most attractive and instructive books for children ever printed. Each volume deprescribes, in a lively and interesting manner, the sights and sounds of the cities visited, as well as the national life, manners, and customs of its people. Profusely illustrated by wood with textual illustrations and full-page illustrations. The title pages feature a pair of glasses, with scenes of adventure and travel shown through the lenses. The book "Boston" has a small piece torn away from the upper corner of the first page of chapter I affecting one letter and some off-setting near gutter of pages 24 and 25 (from something laid in at one time), and one tiny, closed edge tear, endpapers toned. The Boston has upper corner piece torn away at page 9. St. Petersburg and Boston each have previous owners of Joseph King dated 1869. A lovely set bound in publisher's violet-brown cloth, boards decoratively stamped in blind, spine fully decorated in gilt, a few very lightly bumped corners and a bit of wear to a few spine ends, a couple of closed tears to front free endpaper repaired to the Boston volume. An occasional spot of foxing but mostly fresh. A very worthwhile set.
